Altcoin mining with a spare Parallella? : parallella

Bitcoin mining using Parallella?

Hey everyone,
in this video, Bitcoin mining as an example for the parallela is briefly mentioned.
That actually sounds like a good idea. According to Adapteva, the Epiphany chip is set up to work with OpenCL, which many a miner uses.
Plus, the only running costs you have is power consumption, which is about 2 orders of magnitude lower than for your average high end GPU.
Sure, it won't be near as fast as a GTX680, but hey, it's way more efficient.
Does anyone have any experience in OpenCL and/or bitcoin mining? I've just started looking into BTCs yesterday.

Altcoin mining with a spare Parallella?

I've got a spare parallella board that's been sitting on a shelf for a while, so today I installed the OS onto a microSD card and powered up the board using a spare USB port from my always-on home server. It booted fine, and power seems to be sufficient – I power a Pi3 + 4 PiZeros (clusterhat) from the same port without issue – so I'm wondering if there's any way I could make use of it by doing some passive altcoin mining.
I understand that bitcoin mining might be a bit much for the board, and found an example of Litecoin mining here but this hasn't been touched since 2013 and I couldn't get it up and running.
I also understand that it's better to mine with GPUs, but since I've got the board lying around, if I make a couple of coins a year and they appreciate in price, what's the harm, right? :)
Has anyone had any success running mining software on the Parallella, able to point me in the right direction?

Bitcoin miners use special hardware to solve complex mathematical problems to earn Bitcoins. Most miners work together in a pool to solve these problems, which in turn still takes a long time if you try it with your PC at home. With a regular home PC, it would take you about 100 years to mine one bit coin. Learn more about Bitcoin mining.
